We were ready to welcome you
on January 7th
as a calm, planned c-section;
suspected to be a “good sized” baby
and sitting in an adverse position.
Yet we soon learned,
you go to the beat of your own drum.
On January 5th
I woke to sharp contractions
already two minutes apart
and you quickly arrived
by emergency c-section;
a surprisingly tiny six pounds.
5 years on,
you are firmly positioned
as the boss of the family,
the one to charm everyone
who crosses your path,
and the one with the most wicked
sense of humour.
With your angelic features,
you are forgiven of so much.
And whilst no one is looking
you are seeking out
all the reckless things
all the adverse things,
all the fun in life;
forever keeping us
on our toes
and throwing our plans
out the window.

Happy 5th birthday to my beautiful, reckless baby boy!

Each day during the month of January I take a photo of my children, and share these little pieces of our life here. Childhood goes so quickly and it’s in the little moments of each day that we live and show our true selves. I do this project not only for me, but for my boys to one day look back at these photos along with my letters to them, and know without a doubt how much they are loved.
